Official new home stadium for Black Leopards FC

Black Leopards hope to have an official new home stadium when the GladAfrica Championship resumes on February 23.

LIMPOPO – Black Leopards, who recently relocated to Malamulele, face Cape Town All Stars on the day with the game to hopefully be played at either the Malamulele or Saselamani Stadium.

Lidoda Duvha have already played 17 matches in the 2021/2022 season, of which they won three games, lost nine and drew five.

Leopards played their previous eight home games at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane after they complained about the high rates charged at Thohoyandou Stadium.

Each game in Thohoyandou cost the team R27 795, while the rent at Peter Mokaba Stadium is only R5 000 per game.

Leopards, however, late last year indicated their intention to move from Polokwane to Malamulele after they signed an agreement with the Collins Chabane Municipality.

The agreement is for the use of both the Malamulele and Saselamani stadiums, subject to approval from the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

PSL senior official professor Ronnie Schloss concluded the final assessment at the stadiums on January 26. His decision on which stadium (if not both) will be suitable to host their games, will be announced on Thursday.

Minor adjustments had to be made to the Saselamani Stadium in order for the stadium to be approved for these games, while bigger adjustments needed to be made at Malamulele Stadium.

Leopards spokesperson Divhambele Mbalavhali said they were optimistic about the PSL’s report.

He added they expect the game on February 23 to be played at Saselamani while the final adjustments are done to Malamulele Stadium.

Collins Chabane municipal spokesperson Robert Mathye said they had tried by all means to revamp the stadium to enable it to host these games.

“We have tried to resolve the outstanding issues since we have been given the instruction by the PSL.

“We hope that when the league activities resume, the matches will be played here at Saselamani Stadium,” he said.

Mathye added the stadium could comfortably accommodate 15 000 people, and that a new pavilion was recently completed at the stadium.
