“It is alleged that the minibus was facing oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with a Nissan NP200. The 38-year-old driver of the bakkie was killed on impact.”

Maringa added that two people were critically injured, seven passengers from the minibus sustained serious injuries, while seven others escaped with minor injuries.

Maringa said reckless driving has been cited as the possible cause of the incident. “The injured were rushed to the Pietersburg Hospital in Polokwane and police are investigating a case of culpable homicide,” he added.

The collision is the second fatal incident this long weekend involving a bakkie and a taxi.

On Friday (October 30), the driver of a bakkie was killed after he collided with a taxi on the R524 near Tshikhudini village in the Vhembe district.
