Three arrested following shooting at Savannah Mall

Mall management confirmed that the shooting did not happen between shoppers in the centre.

POLOKWANE – Three men have been arrested in connection with a shooting at Savannah Mall earlier this evening.

Provincial police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed that the police in Polokwane have opened cases of attempted murder and assault.

“Investigations are still unfolding but it is alleged that an argument started among people next to Savannah Mall. Two people allegedly attempted to rob a person of a firearm and stabbed him, and he allegedly shot both of them,” he explained.

Mojapelo told Review that the police were called and the firearm was confiscated for further investigations.

“The three were arrested and taken to hospital for medical attention. The motive for the incident is not known at this stage,” he concluded.

Savannah Mall centre manager Janene Wessels has hailed the community policing forum, the centre’s security personnel and the police for their swift response in dealing with the matter.

“It seems like an argument started at the bus stop outside the centre and boiled over to our parking lot. I can confirm that the incident did not happen between shoppers at the mall. I want to thank everyone involved who speedily dealt with the situation,” she told Review.
