Kidnapping: ‘We can only try to imagine what the Moti family is going through’ – MEC

Social workers from the Limpopo Department of Social Development will this morning visit the family and the school of the four Moti brothers who were kidnapped on Wednesday morning.

POLOKWANE –  The Limpopo Department of Social Development will this morning offer support to the family and friends of the four Moti brothers who were forcefully taken on Wednesday morning.

MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale says the violent way in which the children were taken is disturbing and their safety is of a serious concern.  “As a parent, I can only try to imagine what the Moti family is going through. It is very upsetting.”

She said the department dispatched a team of social workers to visit the Moti family to offer support, and another team will offer psycho-social support to the learners at the school the children attend, Curro Heuwelkruin.”

Nazim and Shakira Moti’s four sons, Zidan (6), Zayyad (11), Alaan (13) and Zia (15) were kidnapped at around 07:00 on their way to school on Wednesday (October 20).

This morning, police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed that the children have not been located yet.

He added that the deputy provincial commissioner responsible for crime detection, Maj Genl Samuel Manala will lead a multi-faceted team of investigators and other role players with the relevant expertise to handle such a case.

Provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe on Wednesday ordered a high-level search operation that also involves the SAPS Airwing, as well as private security forces. These operations now include parts of other provinces.

We urge anyone with information about the whereabouts of these children to contact the police. Our social workers will be with the family, while we are still praying and hoping for the safe return of the children” says MEC Rakgoale.
 
MEC Rakgoale and her counterpart from the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, are expected to visit the family later today.
