Crime intelligence officer gunned down in Vuwani, Limpopo

Provincial police commissioner Lt Genl Thembi Hadebe has ordered an immediate probe in to the incident and activated a 72-hour activation plan to track down the three men involved.

LIMPOPO – Provincial police are investigating a shooting incident on Friday evening that claimed the life of 58 year-old Lt Col Tshitereke Freddie Masuvhelele.

Masuvhelele, who was attached to the Provincial Crime Intelligence unit, was gunned down during an apparent business robbery at Masuvhelele Enterprise in Malonga village, Vuwani on October 8.

According to a statement issued by police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo the deceased and his two sons were in the process of locking up business for the evening at around 19:10 when they were accosted by the suspects.

“It is alleged that two armed men entered the shop and held the two young men at gunpoint and robbed them of an undisclosed amount of money and a cellphone. Their father who was behind the shop feeding the cattle saw his sons running away, screaming and when he went to investigate he came across the third gunman who was awaiting outside the shop. The man subsequently shot Masuvhelele several times,” Mojapelo explained.

He added that the suspects reportedly fled the scene to two vehicles, a white VW Polo and a white Toyota Run-X, both with Gauteng registration numbers.

“Police and emergency medical services were summoned to the scene and Masuvhelele was certified dead on the scene,” Mojapelo said

Provincial police commissioner Lt Genl Thembi Hadebe, who visited the scene with other members of senior management, condemned the incident and immediately ordered a 72-hour activation plan to track down the culprits involved.

“Anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of those involved can contact Lt Col Hillman Matumba on 0714816876, the 24-hour Crime Stop number on 086 001 0111ot their nearest police station. They can also contact the police via the MySAPSApp,” conlcuded Mojapelo.
