‘Electrical problem’ leads to water supply stoppage

Lepelle Northern Water's team is currently tending to the problem.

POLOKWANE – Various areas in the city, Ga-Chuene and Seshego may experience water supply issues as a result of a problem at Lepelle Northern Water’s (LNW) Olifantspoort plant.

Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala said in a statement that LNW informed them of a supply stoppage.

“The plant is not pumping water to Polokwane due to, according to LNW, failure in an incoming supply of electricity. LNW has called an electrician to attend to the situation,” Selala explained.

He said supply will be restored once the problem has been resolved.

“Areas receiving supply are urged to use water sparingly. Report water challenges to the Municipal switchboard number on 015 023 5000 or the Water and Sanitation helpline on 015 023 5376 / 5629,” he added.

Meanwhile, in a different matter, water tankers will continue to assist areas that experience water shortages due to low reservoir levels.

The identified areas:

  • Flora Park
  • Nirvana
  • Northview Estate
  • Parts of Bendor
  • Parts of the central business
    district (CBD)
  • Thornhill

Selala yesterday (August 7) said the municipality is investigating issues that led to low reservoir levels.
