Police investigates brutal assault, murder of young woman
23-year-old Thapelo Sabatha was on Wednesday (July 28) admitted to Helen Franz Hospital with severe injuries to her face and chest.
LIMPOPO – The police are investigating the brutal assault and murder of a 23-year-old young woman from Desmondpark in Senwabarwana.
Thapelo Sabatha was brutally assaulted on Wednesday (July 28) and was left to die next to Helen Franz Hospital. According to reports she sustained severe injuries and was admitted to hospital where she later died.
The incident was confirmed by police Spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo who said the police are investigating a murder case.
He explained that at 10:30 on Wednesday, members of Community Service Centre (CSC) had received a report of an injured woman who passed away at Helen Franz Hospital. They investigated and found the deceased woman still dressed in a red shirt, blue jeans and grey tekkies. “She had bruises on her face and chest,” he explained.
The motive for the attack is not yet known and no arrests have been made as yet. “Police have not ruled out gender-based violence,: he added.
MEC of Social Development, Nkakareng Rakgoale has condemned the attack and called on police to arrest the perpetrator.
“It is very disturbing to learn about the murder of this young woman and we urge anyone with information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) to contact the police.”
Rakgoale added that a team of social workers will visit the area to provide physo-social support to the family of the victim, as well as other parties that have been affected, during this trying time.
