Residents urged to reduce electricity usage at night

MOKOPANE – LOAD shedding remains a possibility if the country as a whole does not cooperate to save electricity and Johan Fourie, manager electrical services at Mogalakwena Municipality pleads with residents to assist Eskom to keep the lights on.

The recovery programme at the Majuba Powerstation is proceeding well and has far exceeded expectations. Teams are working around the clock, moving coal from stockpiles to the conveyer belts, which are the link to the generating units.

According to a media statement from Eskom, the wet weather does pose a challenge, especially at Majuba, given that some of the coal handling is taking place out in the open.

“We have implemented a wet coal management strategy to ensure the wet coal risk is reduced in our other stations. It is however not possible to neutralise this risk completely, especially over periods of prolonged, high rainfall,” read the statement.

Eskom appeals to consumers to reduce their electricity usage throughout the day, but especially from 18:00 to 22:00. Switch off geysers, air conditioners and non-essential appliances to prevent the need for rotation load shedding.
