3 killed in head-on collision on R71
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning, July 11.
LIMPOPO – Transport and Community Safety MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has sent messages of condolences to the families of the three people who died in a head-on collision earlier today.
According to a statement by the department’s media liaison officer Mike Maringa, two sedans collided on the R71 outside Phalaborwa in the Mopani district.
“The accident happened at around 02.30 and it is alleged that the driver of one of the sedans lost control and collided with the other oncoming sedan,” Maringa explained.
He said the drivers of both vehicles and a passenger were certified dead on the scene.
“Another passenger, who escaped with serious injuries, was rushed to the nearest hospital,” he added.
Lerule-Ramakhanya concluded that she is worried about motorists who continue to disobey lockdown rules and curfew hours.
