Mitchell House hosted the Limpopo Eisteddfod dance competition on Thursday and Friday and parents came to support their children.

POLOKWANE – Dance styles that were part of the Limpopo Eisteddfod were ballet, modern dance, lyrical and open (freestyle).

Dancers from various schools participated and their dance teachers ensured that their outfits and make-up were ready when they were called onstage.

Adjudicators Henery van Staden and Jeannette Ziady ready to score the dancers.

All participants were judged on their technique, musicality, use of stage, stage personality, grooming and also according to the syllabus code on which the dancer has entered.

The dancers showcased outstanding performances in classical ballet and included mainly ballet techniques and classical steps and movement.

Demi-characters consist of a story and characters while lyrical dance involves blended elements of ballet. In modern and contemporary, dancers used movements to express strong emotions such as love and joy while modern dance saw some jazz, contemporary and hip-hop dance.

At the end of each session in different categories, all dancers received a report stating how well they did from the adjudicator, Jeannette Ziady, as well as a certificate. “Everybody has done really well in their dance performances. All your dances told a story and you were dancing on beat. I can see that the dance styles were very well rehearsed.

“Keep getting stronger as there is so much talent and potential in Limpopo,” Jeannette said.
