Men that prey on off-campus Univen and TVET students, granted bail

The trio have been positively linked to over 40 serious and violent crimes committed in the Vhembe district.

LIMPOPO – Three men who were arrested in connection with crimes against off campus Univen and TVET students, have been granted bail.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the accused, Luvhengo Vhutali (21), Washu Innocent Ratombo (22) and Moses Tshivhase (33) appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 13 April and were granted bail of R7 000 each.

“Their case was postponed to 29 April for further investigations.”

The trio face charges related to rape, armed robbery, burglary and business and house robbery.

The men were arrested in Phiphidi and Vondo villages, respectively on 10 February after the police received a tip-off from the community about suspects who were involved in a recent armed robbery in Thohoyandou. Preliminary police investigations have linked the suspects to more than 40 serious and violent crimes committed in the Vhembe district, mostly against off-campus students from University of Venda (Univen) and Vhembe TVET college.

More charges might be added as investigations continue.
