The MEC pleaded to motorists following an earlier head-on collision on the R524 at Ratombo village in the Vhembe district.
According to the department’s Media Liaison Officer, Mike Maringa, a bakkie and a sedan were involved in the incident.
“It is alleged that one of drivers was overtaking on a barrier line and collided head-on with the other oncoming vehicle,” he explained.
Maringa said two people, aged 23 and 25, were certified dead on the scene.
“Two others, who are in a critical state, were rushed to Tshilidzini Hospital. Preliminary investigations revealed reckless driving as a possible cause of the accident,” he added.
