High police visibility on N1 as traffic volumes increase

Road users are advised to adhere to the rules of the road or face the full might of the law.

LIMPOPO – Law enforcement officials are out in full force to monitor motorists compliance to road regulations.

Traffic volumes have started to pick-up as motorists make their way to their various destinations for the Easter long weekend. 

Transport Deputy Minister, Dikeledi Magadzi joined by Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya are currently leading a road safety operation on the N1 southbound between Bela-Bela and Modimolle.

The Media Liaison Officer for the department, Mike Maringa says the awareness operation is aimed at encouraging motorists to drive with caution and adhere to the rules of the road.

“Traffic volumes have increased on the N1 between Bela-Bela and Polokwane, with thousands of migrant workers going home for the holiday. The number of vehicles on the N1 is expected to increase this afternoon which can lead to traffic congestion at the tollgates,” he concluded.

Between 2 000 and 2 400 vehicles per hour are expected to pass through Pumulani and Carousel toll plazas during peak periods over Easter weekend and road users are advised to plan their journeys in advance.
