Biker dies in 3-vehicle crash on R71

The possible cause of the incident has been stated as reckless driving and speeding, says Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala.

LIMPOPO – A case of culpable homicide is being investigated after a fatal collision on the R71 earlier today.

The incident happened near Haenertsburg at around 08:00 and according to the Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala, one person died and six were injured.

The incident involved a sedan, bakkie and a motorbike. The possible cause of the incident has been stated as reckless driving and speeding.

“It is alleged the one vehicle was speeding and sideswiped the 2nd vehicle involved and then knocked into the motorbike.”

Moremi-Taueatsoala says the biker died while six others were injured. “Two passengers were critically injured, while the two drivers and another two passengers sustained moderate injuries.” The injured were treated on the scene and transported to medical facilities nearby for further treatment.

The exact cause of the incident will be determined through ongoing investigation by the police in Tzaneen.

Reports suggest the deceased is a well-known biker in the province and is a Hoedspruit resident. His identity is know by Review, however, we will only publish his name once the next of kin have been notified.
