Polokwane: Two suspects accused of drug dealing, bribery granted bail

The two men face charges of possession and dealing in drugs and bribery after they were caught with nyaope worth an estimated R500 000.

POLOKWANE – The two suspects in the matter were granted R1 000 bail each and their case postponed to 2021 by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 7 December.

The duo, aged 32 and 41, were arrested on Monday, 30 November during a sting festive season operation in the city. The men face charges of possession and dealing in drugs and bribery are expected to re-appear on 3 March 2021.

POLOKWANE –  Two men arrested earlier this week on charges of possession and dealing in drugs and bribery, were remanded in custody for further police investigations, by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 3 December. The duo, aged between 29 and 48, were were arrested in the city on Monday evening during one of the parallel sting festive season operations in the Capricorn District.

The men in blue received information about the suspicious movement of two men driving a white bakkie who exchanged plastics in Penina Park. The police acted swiftly and recovered a total of 237 small packages of nyaope hidden in the car.

The two suspects were nabbed and police searched one of the suspect’s apartments in Flora Park where another stash of nyaope with an estimated street value of R500 000 was discovered. It is alleged that the suspect also tried to bribe the officers with R3 000 which led to an additional charge against him.

Both suspects are expected to re-appear on 7 December for bail application.

Meanwhile, the other two suspects, aged 47 and 48 were arrested separately at Bendor and Thornhill for possession of and dealing in drugs. The police were tipped off about the suspects selling drugs at a house in Bendor. On arrival, the police searched the house and found 377 plastics of nyaope inside the house.

In the process of trying to evade arrest, the suspect got injured. Police managed to apprehend him and he was taken to hospital for medical treatment. The arrest at Thornhill was led by information that led to a house where a 48-year-old suspect was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs

.

Police searched the house and found 12 rocks of nyaope. These suspects will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba said he appreciates the work done by these police officers, “by continuing to dismantle criminal syndicates and in removing the drug dealers within our communities across the province”.
