Manhunt still underway for killers of Vhembe SAMWU members

A combined reward of R500 000 is still being offered for information pertaining to the murders of SAMWU members, Ronald Mani and Timson Musetsho Tshimangadzo.

LIMPOPO – South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) members, Ronald Mani and Timson Musetsho Tshimangadzo (Tshililo), were shot in separate incidents in 2019.

In a statement issued by the Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, he confirmed that a combined reward of up to R500 000 (R250 00 each), is still being offered to anyone who can supply the police with valuable information that can lead to the arrest and subsequent conviction of the suspect(s) responsible for the murders of the two SAMWU members from the Vhembe region.

50-year-old Ronald Mani, was gunned down at a local liquor outlet at Itsani village, just outside Thohoyandou at around 20:00 on 30 January and Timson Musetsho Tshimangadzo (Tshililo) was shot in a similar fashion outside his home at Makwarela, north of Thohoyandou on 4 January. Tshillilo succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

A 27-year-old man has since been formally charged with the murder of Mani. Ngoepe said this case is still pending. “The suspect was denied bail by the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s court on 30 September and his case as postponed to 21 January 2021 for bail application and further police investigation.”

He faces charges related to murder, intimidation and Contravention of the Immigration Act. Ngoepe explained that the R250 000 reward is for information which can lead the police to the arrest and conviction of the other person(s) involved in the murder.

“The police are still appealing to anyone with valuable information that can assist in apprehending the suspects involved in these matters to contact Brigadier James Espach at 082 576 0753 or Lieutenant Colonel Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501.”

Ngoepe said callers may choose to remain anonymous any information received will be treated with the strictest form of confidentiality.
