Country’s Covid-19 cases now at 144 264

The mortality rate currently stands at 1,8%.

According to the National Department of Health, South Africa recorded 6 132 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total cases to 144 264.

A total of 73 more deaths were recorded: Mpumalanga (1), Limpopo (5), North West (2), Gauteng (6), Eastern Cape (10), KwaZulu-Natal (6) and the Western Cape (43).  This brings the total national deaths to 2 529 with a mortality rate of 1,8%.

According to statistics released by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, the gender distribution of deaths include 1 327 males and 1 199 females.

The recoveries to date are 70 614, which translates to a recovery rate of 48,9%.
