Brian Allchin’s love for the job keeps him motivated

Brian is the Operational Manager at ER Limpopo and explains his passion to help people now, during the Covid-19 lockdown period, makes him an essential service hero.

POLOKWANE – Being a hero is not easy. You have to be available when no one wants to do the job, go into places that might not be safe, to save a life. People, like Brian Allchin, are heroes, even if they don’t know it.

Brian is the Operational Manager at ER Limpopo and explains his passion to help people now, during the Covid-19 lockdown period, makes him an essential service hero.

“It is my passion to help others and I’ve studied to be able to follow my passion. It was always my dream to be a paramedic.

Brian is an Emergency Care Practitioner and joined the ER team on 1 July 2018. Before this, he worked at Mediclinic Cape Town where he trained paramedics.

“Since the Covid-19 lockdown, my work hasn’t really changed, it is just a lot busier. I have a team of 26 people working with me. I believe a team should see their leader as part of them and not as someone who hides away or runs away when the going gets tough.”

Keeping them positive during these difficult times is of utmost importance. He keeps them up to date with all changes and about what is going on.

“I have a wonderful team at work that helps me stay positive, along with my wife and son at home. The fact that God looks after us and will be with us no matter what happens, keeps me motivated. There are many people who will lose their jobs after all of this and I am thankful that I have a job I love.”

Challenges are everywhere and Brian explains the only thing that discourages him, is those times when you know you did everything in your power, but it wasn’t good enough and then off course the public who do not always understand.

“I work for my family, knowing every time I helped someone, it could have been one of my family members. That keeps me motivated along with my passion to help.”
