Ignoring lockdown? Fines explained

The Determination of Admission of Guilt Fines in respect of offences in terms of the Disaster Management Act 2002 (Act 57 of 2002) Regulations 2020’s lockdown regulations were signed into effect on Monday and apply to the whole country.

Failure to close your business, or selling prohibited items, will lead to an immediate arrest. Opening any place or premises normally open to the public where religious, cultural, sporting, entertainment, recreational, exhibitional, organisational or similar activities take place will also lead to arrest. These places include public parks, beaches, swimming pools, open air food markets, fêtes and bazaars, night clubs, casinos, hotels, lodges, guest houses, holiday resorts, private and public game reserves, unless these places are being used to accommodate tourists confined to these establishments.

Other places that are to remain closed are taverns, shebeens, shisanyama, bottle stores, theatres and cinemas, shopping malls except for grocery stores and pharmacies and also taxi-ranks, bus depots, train stations and airports.
