Limpopo’s Patient Zero makes full Covid-19 recovery

Limpopo currently has 13 positive cases of Covid-19, including the recovery case.

LIMPOPO –  The province’s first person to have tested positive for the Corona virus, a 28-year-old medical doctor, has made a full recovery. The Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba applauded the doctor for the self-discipline he showed as he went into self-quarantine upon returning from a trip to Europe.

In a statement, she commented: “This recovery must give hope to the community.  If we do what is right, we can contain the spread of this disease.”

Limpopo currently has 13 positive cases of Covid-19, including the recovery case. According to the MEC, only one case is believed to have been transmitted locally, but further investigations are underway in this regard.

COVID-19 CASES, BREAKDOWN PER DISTRICT:

WATERBERG

Waterberg has six cases, of which three people are of a Western Cape family who had travelled to Europe and upon return self-quarantined and isolated themselves on a farm in the district. The other three are Japanese national who travelled home, an Australian national who travelled home and a Zimbabwean national who recently arrived in South Africa.

CAPRICORN

Capricorn has thus far recorded four cases which includes the recovery case. The other three individuals are a 44-year-old female who travelled to London, a 44-year-old who recently returned from a cruise ship in the Portuguese Islands, and a 54-year-old male who travelled to Nigeria.

VHEMBE

Vhembe recorded two cases: a 54-year-old female who travelled to the US and a 45-year-old female with no travel history (suspected local transmission).

MOPANI

Mopani recorded a single case:  a 30-year-old man who was tested in Gauteng. He did not self-quarantine and returned to Limpopo. He has since been arrested and taken to an isolation site at the Modimolle MDR TB Hospital. The tracer teams are currently locating those he might have come into contact with to ensure that they are screened and tested.

SEKHUKHUNE

Sekhukhune remains the only district in the province with no confirmed cases.

The MEC has called on the people of Limpopo to exercise maximum discipline during this period and says the lockdown hopes to stop the spread of the virus.
