Studying now easy for pupils thanks to muni

Young people from disadvantaged families will now have an opportunity to further their studies, thanks to the Vhembe District Municipality Executive Mayor Bursary Fund

LIMPOPO – Young people from disadvantaged families will now have an opportunity to further their studies, thanks to the Vhembe District Municipality Executive Mayor Bursary Fund.

According to municipal spokesperson, Matodzi Ralushai, the R3,5 million bursary fund has been set aside to assist those from impoverished families in the district.

“This is in response to the needs of the community we serve. We have established this bursary fund to assist learners who pass their Gr 12 exams and qualify to further their studies at universities or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges in South Africa,” Ralushai explained.

These are the requirements of the bursary:

• Eligible students should be residents of the Vhembe district; they should show consistency in good performance while their parents must be unemployed or classified as indigent.

• Learners must also be either in Gr 12 during this current financial year or have passed their matric.

• The bursary covers numerous study fields focusing on diploma and bachelor degrees in administration, hydrology and water management, environmental, disaster and waste management and regional and town planning.

• Engineering which includes civil, electrical, mining and chemical, as well as finance fields such as auditing, financial accounting, economics and business management, and tourism, agriculture and information technology also qualify as relevant study fields.

• Application forms are currently obtainable at the municipality’s help desk or at the Musina, Makhado, Mutale and Thulamela municipalities.

• The application forms should be accompanied by a certified copy of the applicant’s Gr 12 statement of results or tertiary academic record and an affidavit which shows indigence, proof of residence, certified copy of ID or birth certificate, letter of reference from the school principal (for Gr 12) and proof of residence from their head man or local civic organisation.

The closing date for applications is 27 November .
