[WATCH] Coronavirus: 1st case in Limpopo ‘imported’

The 28-year-old doctor is under self-quarantine. The Health Department has started the process of contact referencing

POLOKWANE – Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba confirmed on Monday, 16 March that a 28-year-old male doctor from Limpopo has tested positive for  Coronavirus (Covid-19) and has gone into self-quarantine.

In a media briefing at the Health Department’s provincial offices Ramathuba said the doctor went into self-quarantine after he returned from his travels to Europe (France, Spain and Netherlands) and immediately requested a test, which came out positive. “We applaud the doctor for initiating his testing and for self quarantine,” she said.

She adds that the identity and exact location of the man will remain hidden for his safety. “He is asymptomatic. He is not sick and does not have symptoms. The department has started the process of contact referencing but his contact will be minimal as he went into self quarantine immediately after his travel.”

Ramathuba has outlined intensive measures for the province after this announcement. These plans will be released after the exco meeting later today.

LIMPOPO –  The first case of Coronavirus (Covid-19) has been reported in Limpopo. According to reports the infected person is a doctor who had visited Europe. The Health Department has called for a media briefing later today, where all details will be conveyed to the media.
