Husky found chained in Bendor house

POLOKWANE – The social networking site, Facebook and Viraljoe.com were this week abuzz with news of a husky and a pekingese, which were found chained on the top floor of a partially-built house in Bendor.

According to Viraljoe.com, the dogs were “dog-napped” by somebody who kept them chained and locked in a small open room in the house. The husky is brown and white and the pekingese has only one eye. Acting on a tip-off, the Society of prevention of cruelty to animals (SPCA) removed the dogs from the premises.

“The husky, as well as a pekingese, were taken from the building and are currently in our care. They are in very good condition, but the circumstances they lived in were terrible,” said Anton du Bruyn, SPCA Polokwane manager.

De Bruyn said the alleged owners of the dogs claimed them from the SPCA.

“A lot of people came to say the dogs were theirs, but we are not certain who the owners are. We met with the alleged owners on Tuesday, who wanted the dogs returned to their care. We told them the dogs would only be returned if they relocated to a new premises.

The SPCA will then conduct an inspection of the new premises and if it meets our standards, the dogs will be returned,” said De Bruyn.

“We are reluctant to give the animals back. We already have some people looking to adopt them.”
