Limpopo youth call on department to deal with gangster elements

This comes after local learner, Thorisho Kgomo (19) was stabbed to death on 1 January

POLOKWANE –  Residents in Seshego are living in fear of terror groups that have been ‘given free reign’ in the area.

Members of these groups have now been linked to the murder of 19-year-old Thorisho Kgomo. “They not only mug our people but now allegedly kill our brothers and sisters too,” says Maxwell Modiba, South African Youth Council (SAYC) Coordinator.

Kgomo from Luthuli Park was stabbed to death on 1 January in Seshego zone 3 and a 17-year old suspect has since been arrested and appeared in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on 30 January for a formal bail application.

The suspect was out on bail for rape and there is a robbery case against him being investigated by the Lebowakgomo police.

Video footage, sent by the arrested teenager has recently surfaced on social media and the council now calls on the Department of Transport and Safety to investigate.

“We note that some these members have been arrested previously, but that they are allegedly treated leniently by being placed in unlocked cells and even being allowed to take their cellphone with them. We are in possession of video footage which was allegedly taken by one of these perpetrators.”

The council feels members which belong to such a group should not be given free reign in and out of prison and call on the department of Transport and Safety to investigate and deal with those involved.
