The MEC for Social Development, Nkakareng Rakgoale has since deployed a team of social workers to the area to assist the family of the deceased and those who have been affected, by providing psycho-social support services. Rakgoale says the team will also make an assessment to ascertain whether further assistance can be rendered to the family as they prepare to bury their loved one.

The MEC sent her condolences to the family in a statement. “I am devastated as another young life has been ripped away by a seemingly heartless individual. The fact that this incident happened on the eve of the start of the observation of 16 Days of No Violence Against Women and Children is an indication that our messages are falling on deaf ears. We ask for respect for our women and children but instead they are being raped and murdered.”

President Cyril Ramaphosa has also called upon the police to intensify the manhunt for the perpetrator and urged anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of person responsible to contact the SAPS crime hotline at 08600 10111.
