Five people were arrested for stock theft in two separate incidents this past week

LIMPOPO – Two people were arrested in the early hours of Sunday, 17 November after they were found to be in possession of three carcasses of cows.

The duo were nabbed during a intelligence-led joint operation conducted by the Musina Stock Theft Unit and the farming community. Information received led the team to a farm on the outskirts of Musina where the members recovered the carcasses of three heavily pregnant Bonsmara cows loaded inside a Toyota Quantum.

The carcasses are valued at R60 000. The two accused, aged 27 and 35, were arrested and are set to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of stock theft and possession of stolen meat.

Meanwhile in Tshilwavhusikhu outside Makhado, three more people were arrested on Friday, 15 November for the theft of two goats.

The animals were stolen at Tshiozwi village and police investigations led to the arrest of a herd boy who allegedly sold the goats to two men around the village. The buyers were traced and the two goats were found inside a kraal which belonged to the one accused. The goats were returned to the owner after positive identification.

All three will appear in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court soon.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba commended the stock theft unit for their continued efforts to curb stock theft incidents in the province which are a threat to the national economy and food security.
