‘Chronicles of a Slay Queen’ warns against life’s dangers

Mutshidzi Mutshinya says the idea to pen this book came after she observed how young people on social media live under pressure to portray a luxurious lifestyle

LIMPOPO – A dream came true when Mutshidzi Mutshinya was finally able to write and publish a book.

Mutshinya, who is originally from Mianzwi but currently stays in Boksburg, recently launched her first book, Chronicles Of A Slay Queen.

She told CV that the book is about a young woman, Masindi, who gets lured into the lives of slay queens by her cousin with an all expenses paid trip to Dubai. “Masindi soon realises that her job as a retail worker will never be enough to cover her bills. She ends up agreeing to do an escort job in Dubai for a hefty amount. Not all that glitters is gold and perhaps it is a little too late to back down. She finds herself entangled in the rich and famous lifestyle of slay queens and things are not as easy as they seem,” Mutshinya said.

The 27-year-old said the idea to pen this book came after she observed how young people on social media live under pressure to portray a luxurious lifestyle of wearing expensive clothes, taking expensive vacations, eating out at fancy restaurants and going to fancy clubs.

“I need people to stop being pressurised by the fancy or glamorous lifestyle they see online, especially from slay queens. They should not let the internet rush them because no one is posting their failures or what they really go through in order to attain this fancy lifestyle,” Mutshinya said.

She added that readers should know that life is made up of an infinite amount of choices and for every choice they make there are consequences.

“I hope that readers will enjoy this book and also learn a few things from it.”

She started fictional writing in high school and studied a degree in urban and regional planning at the University of Venda.

The 187-page book was published by Bulabuka Publishers.
