POLOKWANE – Capricorn High School learner, Khomotso Marokane (14), was awarded two gold medals at the Club South Africa Championships, which were held at Wits University in Johannesburg recently.

A Zanis Gymnastics gymnast, Khomotso started gymnastics in 2012. “I always wanted to be a gymnast. I love the sport and how the girls look so beautiful in their leotards. But my parents could not afford to send me to gymnastics immediately due to a lack of resources, so I was so happy when two years ago my mom told me that I could start doing gymnastics,” she said.

Khomotso has received a total of 10 medals. She was awarded the gold medals for her individual performance with the hoop and ball, and for team performance. She was also awarded a trophy for being Zani’s 2013 South African winner.

She is one of the gymnasts who will represent Limpopo at the South African Gymnaestrada Championships, and will stand a chance to travel to the World Gymnaestrada Championships in Finland, in July 2015, if her team wins. “I am look forward to the competition next year, and I know my team will make it to Finland.

“We are already lining up sponsors who are interested in sponsoring us if we are chosen to compete in Finland, which would cost over R30 000 per gymnast if we are chosen. My principal also said the school will assist to pay for the trip, if I am chosen.”
