[INFOGRAPHICS] #CrimeStats: Murder and rape increase in Limpopo

POLOKWANE – 3 740 863‬ crimes were committed in the 2018/2019 period, according to the Crime Stats released by Police Minister Bheki Cele. Cele admitted in a short address before the stats were revealed that they were “not very rosy”.

Police recorded crime statistics are derived from administrative data collection processes.

Zoning in on Limpopo, 219 261 crimes were committed and reported to the police.

According to Cele, arguments and misunderstandings are the greatest cause of murders in SA, with gang-related and domestic violence also a factor.

Firearms, knives, and sharp instruments are the weapons most commonly used in murders.
