Man(36) arrested, arms cache recovered on farm outside Lephalale

Police believe the suspect to be the head of a trio crime syndicate which operates in and around the Lephalale, Bela-Bela and Modimolle areas.

LIMPOPO -A 36-year-old man found to be in possession of a large number of firearms and ammunition was arrested during a  tactical intelligence driven joint operation conducted in the Lephalale area recently.

The operation comprised members of the Lephalale Cluster K9 Unit, the Crime Prevention Unit, detectives, the Bomb Disposal Unit and the SPCA.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe said several firearms and ammunition were recovered during the arrest. These included R1 and R4 rifles with 1793 rounds of ammunition, a 9mm pistol with 355 rounds of ammunition and two shot guns with 301 rounds of ammunition.

The origin of these recovered firearms and ammunition will be determined by ongoing investigations.

The man will appear in the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court soon.
