[WATCH] Around 800 protesters march in Mokopane shutdown protest

MOKOPANE – Provincial Leader of South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco), Ntiti Papo on Thursday afternoon handed over a memorandum of demands to the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major Genl Jan Scheepers outside the Mokopane Police Station.
This after over 800 protesters gathered at the Home Affairs Office in Rabe Street from there marching to the Mogalakwena Municipality, ending at the Mokopane Police Station.
In the video Ntiti reads out their list of demands.
This march was reportedly driven by residents following the murder of two ANC members, Vaaltyn Kekana and Ralph Kanyane, last week.
It is believed tomorrow’s march will proceed as planned.
The Mogalakwena Municipality has since released a press statement distancing itself from the shutdown protest march organised in town for Friday, 2 August. They urged residents to avoid the affected areas.

Around 800 protesters will march from the Home Affairs Office in Rabe Street down Nelson Mandela Drive. They will then move into the R101 and make their way to the municipality.

Protesters gather for shutdown protest in Mokopane
MOKOPANE – Residents from in and around town gathered this morning to take part in a shutdown march that was initially planned for Friday.
The march is reportedly driven by residents following the murder of two ANC members, Vaaltyn Kekana and Ralph Kanyane, last week.

The protestors are currently gathered at the Home Affairs Office in Rabe Street, from where they will march down Nelson Mandela Drive. From there they will march to the municipality and the Mokopane Police Station.
Today’s march has been declared illegal and police are on the scene to monitor the situation. They have confirmed that the march will begin at 10:30.
It is believed tomorrow’s march will proceed as was planned.
