LIMPOPO – Hassan was robbed and killed last year on 24 June 2018 and the investigative skills of the Saps Provincial Tracking Team and the Provincial Intervention Unit assigned to probe this matter, led to the discovery of what is presumed to be the body of the deceased, said Police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe in a statement on Saturday.
Forensic investigations will still be conducted to confirm the identity of the deceased, Ngoepe said.
The 26-year-old suspect in the matter was arrested on 2 May following a chain of events that commenced after an incident last year on 24 June where the deceased allegedly gave the suspect a lift at Kalkspruit in the Mashashane area outside Polokwane.

In an earlier statement Ngoepe said it is alleged that during the trip the suspect, who is said to be an ex employee of the deceased, attempted to strangle Hassan and then stabbed him to death. The suspect thereafter took the deceased’s money, drove the deceased’s vehicle onto the N11 road next to Mapela village in the Mahwelereng Cluster, removed the body, doused it with an inflammable substance and burned it.
The vehicle was recovered on 24 April 2019 at Extension 44 outside Polokwane and after a thorough follow-up, the suspect was then arrested and successfully linked to the incident.
The suspect remains in custody after he appeared before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on 25 June. His murder and robbery cases were postponed to 5 August to allow for further police investigations.
