LIMPOPO – This comes after two rapists were sentenced this week to long jail terms, by the Bochum Regional Court and Sekhukhune Magistrate Court, said Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe in a statement on Thursday.
33-year-old Mahlodi Shadrack Makhwiting, from Senwabarwana,was sentenced to life imprisonment for a rape which occurred on 17 August 2016. “It is alleged that the victim, aged 11 at the time, was with her friends when a man known to them, approached them and suddenly grabbed her and dragged her into nearby bushes and raped her repeatedly. During the incident the other girls ran away and when the victim returned home she reported the incident to the family which in turn notified the police. A search was launched for the accused and he was arrested.”
Meanwhile in Sekhukhune, a 26-year-old man, Jan Mnguni, was sentenced to 23 years imprisonment for rape and house breaking with intent to commit crime. He was sentenced 18 years for rape and five years for house breaking for an incident which occurred on 27 July 2017.”It is alleged the victim (19) was sleeping in a room together with her two nieces at her home in Nokaneng village, when the suspect broke into the house, threatened her with a knife and raped her before he fled the scene. The suspects was arrested a few days later after the victim recognised him in a local liquor outlet and informed the police.”

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has welcomed the long jail sentences handed to two rapists and further commended the sterling job done by the investigators in ensuring that rapists are dealt with accordingly.
