Four Zimbabwean nationals detained in Polokwane for being in South Africa illegally
The Limpopo Department of Transport responded to a report about an alleged drunk driver between Mokopane and Polokwane when the arrest was made.
POLOKWANE – Four Zimbabwean nationals are currently being detained at the Polokwane Police Station’s holding cells for being in the country illegally, says the spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Taueatsoala.

This, he says, happened after traffic officials responded to a report regarding a motorist who phoned and reported a driver who was allegedly driving drunk between Mokopane and Polokwane.
“Instructions were given to stop the particular vehicle and it was brought to the Provinicial Traffic Control Centre’s attention. The driver was tested but was not drunk, however, his passengers were drunk. The driver, a Zimbabwean was driving without a driving license and was charged for that,” Taueatsoala explained.
After failing to produce acceptable identification but producing a traffic register, the police at the Gateway port of entry was called for verification and the driver and three passengers were arrested and detained for being in the country illegally.
“They are currently being detained in the Polokwane Police Station’s holding cells and they will be deported back to Zimbabwe. Their vehicle is being kept at the Polokwane Traffic Control Center,” he concluded.
