Manhunt launched for three escaped prisoners in Witpoort

Police say the prisoners cut the roof of the exercise room and escaped

LIMPOPO – Police in Witpoort, outside Lephalale, have launched a massive manhunt for three awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from police holding cells on Thursday, 14 March 2019.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that the prisoners cut the roof of the exercise room and escaped.

The escapees were identified as Jeremiah Mochongo, Lovemore Onward Morera and Innocent Khumalo.

Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the escapees are all Mozambican nationals and were arrested for murder.

“Anyone with information that can lead to their re-arrest may contact Detective Warrant Officer Pitso Radipabe at 082 414 2279; the crime stop number 0860010111; the crime line SMS 32211 or the nearest police station, he said.

The circumstances around the escape are still being investigated.
