Playing “teacher’ with her dolls fueled Thandeka to become a teacher

New teacher Thandeka Moronga has recently been appointed as a Gr R teacher at Laerskool Ivy Park and says the wait was worth it.

POLOKWANE – The experiential learning she had to go through, after she finished her studies at Westcol College in Early Childhood Development (ECD), paid off.

“I decided to pursue a career in teaching because of my passion and love for children. It gives me great joy when children understand and progress in the work I give them, especifically in the foundation phase.”

Since she joined Ivy Park last year, she has not faced any difficulties, she says.

“It is part of a teacher’s job description to sort out problems and ensure positive results, especially for the learners who rely on the teacher to help them. Growing up I used to play teacher with my dolls and sometimes with my friends. That fueled my dream to one day, teach.”

Thandeka advises the community to opt for teaching as she says more and more younger and much active and technology advanced teachers are needed seeing that technological advancements are slowly evolving and making life easier.

“As teachers our role is not only to teach the children or learners academic material, but also to teach them life skills such as how to carry themselves, to have respect for themselves, their elders and their friends. We teach them the importance of behaving and having goals and dreams, as this is what keeps us alive and active as human beings,” she concluded.
