[JUST IN] Another failed application in Patel case

Double-murder accused Rameez Patel's application for a discharge on the murder charge of his wife, Fatima, has been denied.

POLOKWANE – Double-murder accused Rameez Patel’s application for a discharge on the murder charge of his wife, Fatima, has been denied.

Judge Joseph Raulinga made the decision in the Limpopo High Court earlier today.

In November 2018, Review reported that Patel’s legal representative, Adv Johann Engelbrecht SC indicated his intent to bring an application to have Patel’s case discharged objecting to a witness’s evidence as being ‘hearsay’.

Patel, who stands accused of murdering his wife, Fatima at their home in Nirvana in 2015, was arrested nine days after his mother was killed and was charged with her murder. He will next appear for his mother’s case from 27 to 31 May 2019

Patel’s mother was shot and killed a year after his father was also shot and killed in Platinum Street, Polokwane.

Patel, on Monday, 21 January, indicated to Review that, should the application be dismissed, he would exert all avenues in terms of review, including the Appeals Court.
