Five Chinese nationals arrested for human trafficking & prostitution in Polokwane

The arrests formed part of Operation 'Quiet Storm' which resulted in more than 60 arrests across Limpopo

POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service in Limpopo continue to work tirelessly during the festive season period as an implementation of practical tactics to ensure safer environment for all citizens of the province.

Operation ‘Quiet Storm’, an intelligence led joint operations has led to the apprehension of more than sixty suspects for serious charges in a number of clusters, especially in crime infested areas.

In Polokwane, five Chinese nationals were arrested for human trafficking, dealing in prostitution, possession of suspected stolen goods and bribery.

Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, says the arrests emanated from a joint operation composing of specialised units and during the arrest, goods worth an estimated value of R100 000 were seized.

In the Makhado Cluster, three suspects were arrested for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and possession of a firearm without a license following tip-offs about a stolen Mercedes-Benz that was hidden in Mudimeli Village.

During the arrest a Mercedes-Benz sedan, two firearms with one magazine, two cartridges and one round of live ammunition were confiscated.

Meanwhile, in the Mankweng Cluster, police arrested four suspects for armed robbery and possession of suspected stolen properties.

In the Thohoyandou Cluster, 12 suspects were arrested for residential burglary, business burglary and house robbery. During the arrest, cellphones, laptops, electric cables, a Hummer and machinery were among the items confiscated.

In addition, in the Polokwane, Lephalale, Bela Bela, Mahwelereng, Bolobedu, Burgersfort, Phalaborwa and Tzaneen policing areas, 40 suspects involved in various serious crimes which include, possession of drugs (nyaope), possession of stolen motor vehicles, possession of dangerous weapons, murder, attempted murder, pointing of a firearm, car hijacking and common robberies, were arrested.

During these operations, the following items were recovered :
– Three motor vehicles.
– Three firearms.
– 24 rounds of live ammunition
– 22 sachets of nyaope.
– Counterfeit CD’s and DVD’s.
– R4 000 in cash

Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has applauded members for the “sterling work done” and has encouraged all members to work hard in order to sustain the zero tolerance for any criminal activity throughout the Province.

Ledwaba further hailed communities who continue to work closely with the police by providing quality and reliable information at all times, which contributed immensely in these successes.
