24-hour police operation sees over 700 suspects nabbed for various crimes

As part of ongoing provincial "intelligence-led operations" ahead of the festive season, police have arrested 772 suspects and confiscated various goods to the value of R2 million.

LIMPOPO – Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe says the simultaneous operations were running for twenty four hours in all the clusters especially in the crime infested areas including in all the Port of Entries.

“The suspects, aged between 18 and 69, were apprehended for various crimes such as illegal immigration act, road traffic act, theft, trio crimes, assault, armed robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, possession and dealing in drugs, etc.,” he added.

These operations are composed of various police Units in all the Stations, Clusters including the Public Order Police Unit and the Tectical Response Team (TRT) and were conducted through road blocks, stop and searches, patrols, tracing of wanted suspects, etc.

Some of the successes include the following:

Mankweng cluster: Two suspects (aged 35 and 45) were nabbed at ga-Mamabolo area for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. During the arrest, 97 round of live ammunition for 9mm and R5 rifle were recovered.

Hoedspruit cluster: A 69-year-old man was arrested at Molalane village for illegal possesion of ammunition. During the arrest, 519 rounds of live ammunition and eight home made silencers were recovered.

Burgersfort cluster: One suspect was arrested for  possession of suspected stolen properties which preliminary investigations reveals were stolen at a farm long the R37 road (Tzaneen- Lyndenburg).

Lephalale cluster: Two suspects (aged 23 and 24) were arrested for housebreaking and theft in the Villa Nora Policing area. During the arrest, three music mixer systems and copper cables to the estimated street value of R8 000 were confiscated.

Dennilton cluster: One suspect aged 34 was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs after his vehicle was stopped and searched along Moutse road. During the search 100 sachets of nyaope were confiscated.

Makhado cluster: A 42-year-old man was arrested for house robbery and a Toyota Quantum and furniture were recovered.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has praised the men and women in blue for their dedication and commitment displayed during these operations.

The arrested suspects have already started appearing before different Magistrate Courts throughout the Province and police investigations in all these cases are still continuing, Ngoepe concluded.
