Well-known Westenburg Constable shot and killed in shoot-out with armed suspects

Constable Pieter de Lange, attached to the Westenburg Police Station, was fatally wounded when attacked by unknown assailants at the corner of Witklip and Bulawayo Street late last night, 8 November.

POLOKWANE – De Lange was sitting with a member of the Ladanna Community Police Forum (CPF), Johan Duvenhage, in the latter’s private vehicle at the time, doing observations with regard to drug dealings.

Two vehicles, a white BMW and a white Mercedes Benz with a black roof, stopped next to the vehicle in which De Lange was seated. A number of people emerged from both the vehicles and opened fire on them. The constable retaliated and was shot during the shootout. He died on his way to the hospital.
