Choir singer hits the right note every time

Pontsho Kgooa is a choral musician at heart and says that growing up singing in school and church has allowed him to improve his skills and choral singing.

POLOKWANE – “Growing up, I used participate in many singing, choral music competitions. I believe I was very good judging from how teachers would always instruct me to lead hymns during assembly. I began associating with professional choral musicians in 2015 and they have taught me a lot about the music genre, from how to read as well as how to understand the different notes on a music page,” he explained.

Kgooa has had the opportunity of being a lead singer and vocalist and says singing and music in general, play a positive role to release stress as well as help a person to snap out of depression. “I myself, use music and singing to calm down. When I am feeling overwhelmed and angry, I usually just listen to music,” he says.

He says that music can also be used to narrate societal issues which affect the community such as abuse, crime and various other issues which may hinder growth and development. He says for the youth, participating in choral music will help and assist in developing their patience skills as well as persistence as it takes time to master notes and singing techniques.

Kgooa is set to lead a choral musical which will staged by the African Blend Traditional Choir on 14 November 2018 at the Polokwane, Library Auditorium.

“Our beloved bothers and sisters. I have a message, a very important message that I want to share with you. The word of God says we must not disrespect our elders. They gave life to us, but then here you are, young woman disrespecting your parents, and yourself by changing boyfriends. Look at you now, you are pregnant, and then decided to have an abortion and then be surprised when you get depressed at a later stage in life. Respect yourself, love yourself, practice safe sex, be faithful to your partner or abstain,”

Residents are invited to enjoy as well as support local choirs at only R70.00 per head.
