Three Bela-Bela police officers arrested for armed robbery and corruption

The officers allegedly robbed a complainant of R190 000 at gunpoint

LIMPOPO – Three police officers (two Constables and a Sergeant) between the ages of 33 and 39-years-old were arrested this afternoon, 21 September for alleged corruption and armed robbery.

According to provincial hawks spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke, the officers were stationed at the Bela-Bela police station.

“The officers allegedly robbed a complainant of about R190 000 at gunpoint on 7 September 2018 after they escorted him from a local gambling facility. They demanded that he pay them a bribe in order for them not to pursue money laundering charges against him,” Maluleke explained. 

The matter was reported to the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation unit and the three were subsequently traced and arrested. The suspects are expected to appear in the Bela-Bela Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 25 September 2018 on charges of alleged corruption and armed robbery.
