Dalmada traffic circle in time for Easter weekend

Construction work to build a traffic circle and to install traffic lights at the Dalmada crossing on the R71 from Polokwane to Tzaneen will be completed soon, according to Herman Crause, site supervisor for Hillary Construction who works on the road.

POLOKWANE – Construction work to build a traffic circle and to install traffic lights at the Dalmada crossing on the R71 from Polokwane to Tzaneen will be completed soon, according to Herman Crause, site supervisor for Hillary Construction who works on the road.

Construction began in January after months of public outcry about the number of deaths and accidents at this crossing.

In one of the last incidents at the crossing, a cyclist was hit and killed by a bus.

Provision for access roads has been made for residents in the area as construction continues, as well as roads leading to schools in the area.

“We ask motorists to be patient and to look out for road signs that mark the different access roads. We are pleased to say the circle will be open and ready for use during the Easter weekend when high volumes of traffic are expected. There are still some finishing touches to be done, but the main road will be open and the overall construction is 80% complete,” Crause said.

Spokesperson for the department of roads and transport, Jimmy Machaka, said the department was happy with the progress made and looked forward to seeing the final product.
