The road between Mookgophong and Mokopane was closed to allow for clean-up operations following the bus accident this morning

LIMPOPO – The N1 road between Mookgopong and Mokopane is open following the bus accident which claimed several lives this morning (Monday), Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala, spokesperson for the Department of Transport confirms.

“Following investigation the department can confirm that eleven people died on the scene,” he adds.

Twelve people dead in bus crash near Mookgophong – Dept

LIMPOPO – Twelve people are declared dead and many injured after a Scania Bus overturned along the N1-25 about 15km outside of Mookgophong at 06:30 this morning (Monday), confirms Matomi Moremi-Taueatsoala, spokesperson for the Department of Transport.

Preliminary reports show that the bus overturned due to a burst tyre. The bus was conveying passengers from Zambia to Gauteng.

“Twelve passengers were declared dead and forty-one sustained injuries- two critical, nine serious and thirty minor,” he adds.

The N1 road between Mookgophong and Mokopane is temporarily closed to allow for clean-up operations around the scene. “The bus is off the road but there are still people trapped underneath the wreckage,” he explains.

Motorists are advised to use the R101 as an alternative route.
