Cuban choir serenade shoppers at Mall of the North

The youth choir Waelrant (Borgerhout, Antwerp) and the Ensemble Vocal Luna choir were in the city this week to participate in the Musical Fest in honour of the 5th legacy of Nelson Mandela.

POLOKWANE – During their visit they took time out to entertain the residents at various locations throughout the city. One of these locations was the Mall of the North, where the shoppers where serenaded.

Mari Delport, Mall of the North Marketing Manager told Review that the choirs performance was fantastic. “For the people shopping at the Mall this was a special treat that they really enjoyed. It is all part of the experience of shopping at Mall of the North as we aim to bring people something that they will not find somewhere else,” she conlcuded.

About the choirs:

Ensemble Vocal Luna was founded on 1 September, 2002, by the teacher Sonia Silvia McCormack Bequer. Actually under direction of the teacher Sandra Santos González. It has a female voices format and it has been an undeniable attraction to the Cuban musical environment. The choir is composed of 12 singers graduated , from Middle and Upper levels of music professional education in the country and amateur singers.

The youth choir Waelrant (Borgerhout, Antwerp) was founded in 1968 by Juul Vanderoost. Since 1994, the choir has been led by Marleen De Boo. Their accomplishments include wining the  ‘first prize cum laude’ twice in the highest department (Wimpelreeks) of the European Music Festival for Youth in Neerpelt. Since 2007, the choir has been singing in the honorary section of the provincial competitions.
