Winter fashion must haves to heat up your wardrobe

Review spoke to well known fashion designer, Nico Willoughby Smith about whats hot this winter.

POLOKWANE – Even though the calendar says that winter is almost over, the weather differs and we are still freezing. So what can you wear to be warm but still stylish and fashionable?

“In South Africa, we are always a year behind the leading fashion capitals like Milan, New York and Paris. What ever was fashion there last year, is fashion in South Africa this year,” explains Nico.

For men, he suggests deep autumn colours. “This includes emerald green, rustic reds, burnt oranges, midnight blue and black. The layering effect is in fashion where you wear your trousers with a shirt, a waist coat, a sweater and a jacket.”

He further explains that jackets should be a bit shorter than it was last year and that scarves, especially snoods, are popular among men.

“No hats or gloves are needed.”

For women, dirty pastel colours such as dirty lilac, dirty rose or dirty mint are in fashion.

“Waist coasts with low neck lines are in fashion as well as three quarter-sleeve shirts. Tights, not leggings, with knee height boots are also trending. When women accessorize they wear big, chunky jewelry and bigger prints are also in fashion,” he explained.
