[TAKE NOTE] R81 near Giyani blocked by sand due to protest action

The Department of Transport say they are working on getting the sand removed from the road

POLOKWANE – Spokesperson for the department, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala says the road R81, about 100 metres from Giyani town, towards Malamulele has been closed with a load of sand.

As a result, he says, it is difficult for motorists to pass and the blockage is due to community protests around the Giyani area.

“The same applies to the D3840 road between Giyani and Nkomo village,” he said.

Moremi-Taueatsoala added that the department are arranging with both the Department of Public Works as well as the local municipality to assist with removing the sand.

Motorists are therefore advised to use alternative routes in the mean time.
