Just call him Colonel Ngoepe from now on

Police spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe was promoted to the rank of Colonel at a specially arranged event at Mookgopong on Friday, 1 June.

POLOKWANE – You read his name on a daily basis and for many journalists, such as myself, he’s the go-to person for comment on crime in the province.

Born in Taueatswala, a village next to Steiloop, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe joined the police service in 1985 and was promoted through the ranks until he became an officer in 1990, at the rank of a Lieutenant.

Ngoepe, who is a trained detective and communication practitioner stays true to his word of serving those around him, often going to great lengths to get the job done.

True to his calling, first as a police officer and also as a detective, Ngoepe has successfully secured a number of life sentences on various crimes that he investigatedĀ during a decade of detective work.

According to fellow colleague and police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the experience Colonel Ngoepe acquired dealing with case dockets as an investigating officer, makes him an astute communicator who fully understands and knows what to communicate and what journalists from different media houses need.

Conferring this new rank to Colonel Ngoepe and eleven other Colonels who promoted on Friday, the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, says he appreciates the dedication and loyalty manifested by those promoted.

“These new ranks should not make you think that you have arrived at your destination. You must instead be propelled to do more in serving the people of South Africa in general and Limpopo province in particular,” General Ledwaba said.

Colonel Ngoepe is currently the Section Head of the Media Centre in the province, one of the sections attached to Corporate Communication and Liaison of the SAPS.
