Last Comrades Marathon preparation at the Aïda race

Hundreds of athletes braved the cold on Saturday morning during the annual Aïda Road Race.

POLOKWANE – The race started at Laerskool Pietersburg-Noord Primary at 06:30. The race was hosted in conjunction with Run/Walk for Life and it is the last race for Polokwane runners before they take on the Comrades Marathon in June.

Harry Lamola takes the first place in the 5 km fun run.

The Aïda Road Race offers a 5 km fun run, 10 km or 15 km race, runners were held to strict rules and several runners were disqualified by race officials. Kobie Marais race organiser told Review that the race is growing every year.

Shirley Sasebola and Nhlanhla Mhinga are dressed to impress in the 2018 Aïda Road Race.

“This year saw close to 600 entries taking to the street and it is something that shows the support for the race is growing despite it being a very busy weekend on the city’s entertainment calender,” he said.

Two sisters Mariska and Riette Venter brave the cold.
