Former attorney in the dock for benefiting over R1 mil from the RAF

A 46-year-old former attorney is expected to appear before the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court today, to face charges relating to fraud and impersonating an attorney

LIMPOPO – According to Hawks provincial spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke, the man was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit on Wednesday, 25 April 2018.

“The suspect, who was a practicing attorney based in Thohoyandou, was struck off the roll by the Limpopo High Court in 2010 for embezzling money from the Road Accident Fund (RAF) trust fund,” Maluleke explained.

The Hawks received a tip off that the suspect continued to claim money from RAF, on behalf of the beneficiaries, even after he was truck of the roll and the investigation ensued.

“Investigations revealed that the suspect used his personal bank account to claim money from RAF and didn’t pay the beneficiaries, resulting in him personally, unduly benefiting over a million rand,” Maluleke concluded.
